Fire Shutter – Horizontal

Fire Shutter – Horizontal

Four Hour Horizontally Operating Fire Resisting Roller Shutter

Fire Shutter – Fireroll Horizontal

  • Four Hour Horizontally Operating Fire Resisting Roller Shutter

Bolton Gate Company’s wide range of passive fire resisting products is complemented by the four hour fire resisting horizontal shutter which is capable of closing openings up to 15m in length and 6m in width.

On alarm activation, the shutter curtain formed from heavy duty curved profile laths mounted between fabricated guide channels is driven out electrically along the horizontal.

The bespoke shutter is ideally suited to provide fire integrity compartmentation where equipment or materials need to be transferred between floors.

Alternatively, it can be used on travelators and escalator openings that are not specifically used as part of the fire exit strategy.

Suited for both fire and non-fire rated applications the shutter is manufactured here, in our Bolton factory, with each shutter assembled, pre-wired and tested prior to despatch to simplify the site commissioning process.

Performance Characteristics:

  • Resistance to Fire: E240
  • BRE Global Assessment CC 205454 confirming 4 hours integrity to BS476: Part 22: 1987

Important Note:- This fire shutter is NOT CE Marked. The prime purpose of this fire product is to provide fire separation as a closure between floors not classified as a designated escape route. In other applications it is also used as a means of segregation between safety critical areas opened only to allow crane transfer of equipment.

Key Attributes:

  • Up to four hour fire integrity.
  • Surface mounted or underslung arrangements.
  • Bespoke British design manufactured in the UK to suit our Client requirements.

Applications Include:

This specialist fire door has been selected for use within the nuclear industry including ongoing decommissioning projects but there are much wider fire and non-fire rated applications benefitting from its unique capabilities such as factory hoist wells, battery plants, school lightwells, museum skylights, plant room covers and even submarine hangars.

Specification Summary:

Operation

The flange mounted motor is designed to suit a 400v nominal, 3ph, 50Hz supply which is capable of automatic changeover to a third party standby generator / power supply to ensure continued operation in the event of mains failure.

Emergency operation is facilitated by means of a removable hand crank.

A control panel is provided with integrated open / close / stop push button controls and the facility to receive an alarm signal from the building management system.

In the event of fire, the shutter is activated by an incoming signal and after a timed delay the curtain will be driven to the closed position.

Curtain

The shutter curtain is constructed from continuously interlocking, pretensioned, 63mm curved profile galvanised steel laths complete with endlocks.

The laths are connected at each end to a heavy duty drive chain ensuring a smooth horizontal payout and return of the curtain.

Bottom Rail

A full width galvanised steel angle is provided at the leading edge of the curtain to provide a complete closure.

Side Guides

Fabricated from mild steel plates designed for fitting to a balustrades or masonry side walls. A section of the side guide top plate is removable to allow maintenance access.

Shutter Box

The shutter enclosure is constructed from suitable mild steel endplates incorporating bearing wheels for roller and gears and includes mounting angles for bolting through to the floor.  The sides are clad with steel sheets to complete the fire resisting assembly.

The shutter curtain is coiled on to the roller barrel which is mounted onto a central shaft. This shaft is retained in bearings and incorporates a patented constant tension spring mechanism to ensure even coiling.

Finish

The Horizontal fire shutter is supplied in a galvanised finish as standard. Where non-galvanised parts are utilised, these are finished with one coat of primer paint.
